How the 2015 Hospitality Marketing Predictions Shaped Up

A lot can happen over the course of six months – not to mention a year.

We remember the day we started writing our 72-page eBook (yes, it was quite in-depth) on hospitality marketing trends for 2015.

Imagine: a stack of books, an internet browser with countless tabs open and a blank word document. How do you start summing up the past 12 months while simultaneously figuring out what marketing trends would impact the hospitality industry in the next 12 months?

We reached out to other hospitality experts to get their take and took a look at what had impacted 2014 the most – and paid attention to the trends that we thought would continue to define 2015, such as the rise of content marketing, the huge power of mobile and the importance of visual storytelling.

In a flash, the first six months of 2015 have passed – while the year is off to a great start, there’s always more to be done so we wanted to check in and again take a look at the trends that have impacted us the most this year – and what’s left to come.

When it came down to figuring out how to analyze the first half of 2015, we didn’t have to look further than our own hard-working team (yours truly included) to get a sense of what’s worked when it comes to hospitality marketing and what to focus on for the rest of the year, if you want to stay ahead of the competition. Watch this video to find out what they predicted:

Check out the video to learn their expert tips on hospitality marketing trends that impact you and your property this year. To recap, here’s what they talked about:

  1. Mobilegeddon

One of the most influential things to happen not only to the hospitality industry but to every industry in 2015 was the introduction of Google’s mobile-friendly verification. With this verification, websites that are mobile-optimized will receive a “mobile-friendly” label and will show up higher in mobile search rankings.

Additionally, more hospitality professionals are now aware that travel shoppers are seeking visual shopping experiences on multiple types of devices – desktop, tablets and smartphones – which means you need to optimize your website for every device they use.

  1. Social Buzz

Social media is influencing travel shoppers in ways never thought possible. There are 2.08 billion active social media accounts (23% of which are being accessed over mobile!).

We believe that engaging on social media is a great way to differentiate your property from the competition – a chance to tell your story in a fun and unique way and to reach more travel shoppers all around the world.

You’ve likely already heard about Facebook and Twitter, but in 2015 we say watch out for more hospitality marketers on visual platforms like Instagram and Pinterest – visual storytelling is the future (and the future starts now).

  1. Content is King

Close to one third of marketers across all industries believe that content marketing will be the most commercially important digital marketing trend for 2015 – and budgets will increase accordingly. So why will the hospitality industry be any different?

Not only does content help increase your property’s SEO capabilities, it can also engage the travel shopper by showcasing your property’s unique features, its personality and most importantly, its story.

  1. Multi-Channel Marketing

The modern travel shopper researches on-the-go, across multiple screens and platforms, from your property website, Google, OTAs and Meta Search sites to social media across multiple days. You’ll need to be consistent on every channel to win them over.

  1. Sell with Storytelling

Storytelling sets you apart; as Darlene Rondeau, our VP of Best Practices at Leonardo explained in the video, people don’t buy a room and a bed, they buy an experience. This has become even more important in an era when competition is fierce and the options are endless – use storytelling to differentiate.
